The main goal of our education program is to improve the quality of the education given to the disadvantaged, as well as give all the children in our target villages the opportunity to learn. Our education services involve literacy classes, building and monitoring of schools, school assistance to children and training for literacy teachers and mobile librarians.
We also offer non-formal education services to those many adults that have been robbed of education because of the ravages of the Pol Pot era. Many of the adults have received basic literacy training but require continued educational support to avoid losing their basic literacy skills. Displacement, poverty or the lack of salaries for teachers often disrupts children's schooling too.
Our non-formal education programs, including adult literacy, healthy life education (including AIDS), skills training, and income generating activities, are designed to give village communities of mined areas and those disabled by mines and polio and their families access to ongoing education services. Specific actions undertaken as part of this education program were:
