International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL)
The involvement in the campaign to ban landmines is the highlight of our Advocacy service in Cambodia. Our team member Tun Channareth (Reth) received the 1997 Nobel Peace Price on behalf of International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). He was later named ICBL Ambassador to advocate on behalf of landmine victims. The actions taken place included:
- Visits to different countries urge governments
to sign and ratify the Mine Ban Treaty.
- Promoting the need for de-mining.
- Urging governments to destroy stockpile.
- Urging governments to pass legislation banning the
use of mines. Lobbying that de-mined land be given to
land-less people and not be exploited by the wealthy and powerful, and Monitoring
the implementation of the Treaty.
