Canada Accepts Twenty-five Refugees
Twenty-five men, women and children from seven different countries (China, Sudan,
Afghanistan, Congo, Tonga, Vietnam and Somalia) are finally leaving for their
safety haven by the end of this month. The JRS was asked by the UNHCR to take
them in; and it took care of them during two years to eight years of waiting to
be recognized by the UN as an official refugee and granted asylum in a safer third
country. The JRS provided them with housing, education, medical treatment and
also handled issues between the local Cambodian authorities and the refugees.
