SIEM REAP TEACHER SEMINAR
62 members of the Mettakaruna network teachers and staff met at the Reflection Center Siem Reap city to exchange lessons learnt from their experience as teachers in the 2004- 2005 school year and to learn something new from two experts from Australia , Mercy Sisters Mary Lawson and Bernadette Ahearn. Another sister from New Zealand Anne Sklenars was also present and joined the presentation team. Teachers from formal primary schools and from the non formal sector were present.
The programme included a group analysis of some testing they had done in most schools , some input on ways of making teaching mo re student based and effective , care for the child with special needs and classroom organisation. Teachers also shared their learning from other inservice programmes and everybody reported that they had learnt new ideas and received a lot of energy to start the new school year.
We also asked for feedback about the books , newsletters and videos we were producing. and got new ideas too.
We were very proud when we found that one teacher who began in a little village as our literacy teacher has now been made a principal and is one of the chief trainers of good grade one teachers for UNICEF.
.The teachers were happy to see the temples and other places in Siem Reap and thought the reflection centre was magic! Thank you to the Siem Reap team for making our seminar so happy
During the time Father Steve Curtin,( Australia ) Father Peter Balleis ,( Germany ) Father Tony( Switzerland ) and Father Robert ( Austria ) visited to see our work
