JODY WILLIAMS ARRESTED
ICBL Ambassador, and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate was arrested for campaigning for peace and against landmines in Washington at 8pm last night a long with Mairead Corrigan, some religious and other people who hate the horrors of the IRAQ war, they were loaded into a police van Williams carried flowers, much to the join of Song Kosal, Cambodian youth woman who began KIDS AGAINST WAR Song Kosal. In 2001 visited Colin Powell and asked him to put her Kroma on his office wall it said:" I will do one thing everyday to make peace grow like a flower".
WHY are you and JODY WILLIAMS still campaigning against land mines? Campaigns are often asked. I will tell you why said TUN CHANNARETH, who spoke on the same platform as maread Collignan in Loudes in France. " This day, last month, a mother of 7, 3 months pregnant, had both her legs off, in Banteay Meanchey from a landmine".
Last Sunday, a returned refugee, now man a farmer who lives in a village created, after the war stopped, was ploughing his field a field he has ploughed every year since 1997 and was blown up and killed.
Landmines and the explosive remnants of war cause misery, death, poverty lost long after any war. We need to keep campaigning for mine clearance and victim assistance and a ban on production, use and export of these deadly, long term weapons.
"On the same day as the arrest participants at the Phnom Penh Seminar on a co-operative approach to mine action heard from representatives of HALO and MAG the Cambodia could meet its treaty obligations towards mine clearance by 2010. " On the one side of the globe promise of new life and hope, on the other death and long-term disaster and in Washington civil society its trues to stage silent peace vegets". Perhaps Song Kosal's call to spend time everyday reflecting peacefully threatens power more than military retaliation, said Denise Coghlan of CCBL, friend and colleague of Jody Williams.
