1-International Children's day

On the 1st June in 2006, We celebrated Children's day. There were 109 children came 9 different schools and districts such as Banteay Srey , Lerityor Ponnor ...etc in Siem Reap province. In that day we talked with the children and showed them about convention on the rights of the child- the right of living independently, the right of protection ,the right of development and education and the right of participation. We told the children some stories such as The Two donkeys and Good kids(make by Miss Seap) which make the children think, They compared with their own lives. The children role-played all the stories and they liked them very much.

Miss Ponhka, one of our book authors won first place for high school teaching. She is very gratful to the refugees and the village children for allowing her to pratise on them.

One Sudanese refugee was resettled in New Sealand"8 year and 10 months waiting, so never give up hope "he said on departing.

The convention on Desability will probably be passed at the UN in August, Ny Nhar is co-ordinatin a Khmer translation of the new convention.

Children from Ireland, through the Mercy Sisters are partnering children from Tmor Keo to build a new school in a brand new village.

Some University Students from Sigapore helped villages build a school in the old Khmer Rouge area of Popeit from May 27- June 6.

Mine Action Achievments meeting showed that villagers use. Cambodia my be able to clear its mines by 2010, but many UXO will remain.

NEWS FROM ETHNIC MINORITY AREAS.
Some Montagnard children asylum seekers drowned while fleeing Vietnam to seek refuge in Cambodia.
The Jarai group, one of 15 different ethnic groups in Cambodia are very worried their land is being taken, and they will not be able to have food and security.
