National Events

Today is national Mine Awareness Day  and the  part of the week of activities. On 23 February. Thim , Nhar and Reth organised a very special day in the forests of Kompong Thom , where many people with disabilities live in very  very poor houses and conditions . Their answer to the  question  about what is good about their lives in this village was
Wehave land!   Our effort for this mines week is to listen to the voices of the  most affected in this rapidly changing Cambodia and  hear what they want to say to the people of Cartagena.

In Malai, as we sat with a man who lost one leg in  i997 and another in 1998 and now  wants a school for his  children in a place which is still full of mines  we know  that still much needs to be done here to finish clearing mines and  restoring  quality of life  to survivors. In 10 years Cambodia has achieved much in Mine action but perseverance is  required. To complete the task. 
Visitors 
The Ear team has four Aussie Specialists with them  in Takeo . Dr Kevin, Terry, Barbara and Lisa. Dr Kevin has been coming here for ten years now and was the first of the
many doctors who now visit our project. This is the first time for the surgery to take place at Bambino Gesu in Takeo. 
Last night Jub returned!!! A few planes later Father Mark arrived . They will join Father John , the provincial of Korea and Father Suh  and  the Jesuits in Cambodia  for a meeting in Siem Reap. Welcome to all these guests. 
Father Britto from Japan has been attending an English language conference in Phnom Penh.

Jub will be ordained a priest in Battambang on May 24.  Cambodian team memebers if    you want to go please give your name to Sony or Lot so we can make sure we have booked enough rooms.  We will travel on  Saturday morning and stay overnight on Saturday and return on Sunday evening .
Seap and Tin Tin will welcome a new  baby  in some months!
Vina  and Sopheap are also  nearly ready to welcome their new babies.
Rob is back. 
Taya will come on March 7  as part of the JRS team .

Banteay Prieb had a grat Mines Day on 26 February. The students neat the teachers at Volley Ball, and wheel Chair team won over Production. The singing barber taught songs. Nhar and Reth got good questions and ideas from the students.

A new school was opened   in Yea Ort in Sisophon. Congratulations Sisophon   a especially for keeping the constructor on target . It is a beautiful little school.
 And  a new school is nearly ready in Porpeil.  When we started there only one person in the village could read or write . Now there are 200 in the school and some have moved on to middle school . Congratulations Srey Mom on  stayiong with the people and accompanying them through many ups and downs.
