


ORDINATION OF JUB
Jub(Phongphand Phokthavi) was the first Jesuit ordained in Battambang in Cambodia on May 24, 2009. He was a member of JRS Thailand and served Cambodia Vietnamese Burmese refugees there in 1990 he joined JRS Cambodia as one of the first team, which included Mem and Lot, as well as Sr Ath, Br Noel and Sr Denise
GOLDEN JUBILEE Sr.ATH
Sister Ath, celebrated 50 years of religious profession at a ceremony in Can Tho in Vietnam. She is the only Cambodian sister in teh group of 12, and renewed her vows in Khmer after her colleagues recited them in Vietnamese. Nine of the 12 had worked in Cambodia 2009 is a special year for the pioneers of Jesuit Service in Cambodia. Jub was ordained, Sr.Ath is 50 years professed and on July 5 1959 Sr.Denise left home to become a sister, Kike Figaredo celebrated 9 years as the “Bishop of Battambang”on July 2.
KHMER ROUGE TRIAL
People who suffered torture in the Toul Sleng prison and survived gave witness for the first time this week at the Khmer Rouge Trial in Cambodia. One was the artist who survived by painting pictures of his torture. Another was one of the five children who were discovered, miraculously alive, under old rags when the Vietnamese soldiers came to Toul Sleng in 1979. Pray that the speaking of their experience will release the burdens of the heart.
