YE'OT PRIMARY SCHOOL

Congratuations to Ms Sok Eng, Fr.Greg Priyadi and the team of Jesuit Service.
Jesuit Service Banteay Meanchey province just finished  a three classroom building in Ye’ot village,  Ketksot commune, Banteay Meanchey province. The inauguration of the school was HELD on February 11, 2009, led by Mr.Ong Uen, the governor of Banteay Meanchey province, attended by Sr. Denise, the head of Jesuit Service Cambodia, some members of Camboren from Japan, guests from several NGOs, and of course the villagers. The building was funded by Camboren and friends. The village was a fighting zone between Khmer Rouge and government troops back in nineties. No wonder when CMAC (Cambodia Mine Action Center, a government de-mining agency) de-mined the village they discovered 850 antipersonnel landmines and 10 antitank mines, aside from other UXOs.
Jesuit Service decided to help the people with the building because, 1) the old three wooden classroom building was leaking and could not accommodate all the students, 2) the teachers had good spirit to teach, 3) there were tutoring groups of the students, where the clever students helped the poor fellow students, 4) the villagers were willing to participate in the endeavor by making fence, leveling the land for the building, and ran paper for permission.
The total cost of the building was $ 26.360. Jesuit Service will continue to assist the school by supporting the school library, giving schooling packs to the students in return of their continuous caring of the trees Jesuit Service had given to make environment better, and to set up a kind of remedial class for the poor students of grade 1 and 2. With these activities, Jesuit Service tries to improve the quality of education in the country side. Jesuit Service is inspired by a Chinese proverb that says:  for one year of prosperity sow grains, for ten years of prosperity plant trees, for one hundred years of prosperity educate people.
